Rep. Thanedar Urges Firm U.S. Response to Iran’s Escalating Aggression

Iran, widely recognized as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism, continues to be a significant long-term threat to both Israel and the United States in the Middle East. Its aggressive actions and destabilizing influence have escalated recently, heightening concerns about regional security and global stability.

Iran’s terrorist proxies across the Middle East have intensified their attacks on Israel, launching drones, rockets, and mortars targeting major population centers. These strikes have been deliberately aimed at civilians, causing tragic loss of life and widespread destruction. In April and October, Iran carried out its largest-ever direct drone and missile attacks on Israel, forcing millions of Israelis into bomb shelters and bringing further conflict to the region.

Beyond conventional military strikes, Iran’s nuclear ambitions continue to raise alarms. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors has passed two resolutions within six months condemning Tehran’s failure to cooperate with U.N. nuclear inspectors. Iran has enough highly enriched uranium to complete four nuclear bombs, making it the largest threat out of the “nonnuclear-weapon” countries.

According to reports, it would take Iran just a few days to convert that stockpile into weapons-grade nuclear fuel. Their refusal to address past violations or allow adequate oversight of its expanding nuclear program highlights its defiance of international norms and its growing nuclear threat.

As Iran’s provocations intensify, it is imperative that leaders in Washington remain clear-eyed about this evolving danger. Continued U.S. support for policies that strengthen the security of both America and Israel is essential to countering this ongoing threat and preserving stability in the Middle East.
